It only takes a moment’s glance at this soothing home for your breathing to slow and a sense of calm to envelop you. The serene palette and sweeping arched doorways invite you to sit down and stay awhile. Natural wood tones and layered textures produce a sense of contentment and comfort. This is hygge at its finest. The designer, House of Jade calls the style of this home Rustic Scandinavian Modern. We call it absolutely divine.

From the Designer… The home was built in a neighborhood full of production builds and semi-custom homes in South Jordan, Utah. It has a unique style and amazing views of the Salt Lake City Valley. Due to this being a “semi-custom” home we got creative to make sure it would feel very unique and personal to our clients and not like every other home in the neighborhood.

The homeowners have strong ties to Norway, England and Chile and wanted their home to pay tribute to this. They were very specific on the style and feel that they wanted for the home and were very much involved in the design process. They contributed a multitude of ideas, such as the arched doorways, that we helped execute during the year and a half that we worked with them. The arches are such a home run. The homeowner showed us all the arch inspiration and we were so in love with it. They really set the vibe for the whole house, you’ll see them throughout the entire space.

The feel of the home they wanted was hygge. We really wanted to make this home feel like it was old, lived in, and comfortable. We accomplished this with overstuffed upholstery, lots of neutral colors, and layered textures, accompanied with modern details such as cement. We made sure the home had simplicity and was not over-decorated by using accessories that have a purpose. Many of the pieces are things they’ve collected over time throughout their travels. They love traveling and ancestry, so we incorporated lots of sentimental items in our decor.
