The Home Industry's Top Experts & Creatives

Earthy, tranquil, and casually modern, this vacation retreat is everything we dream of. Lindye Galloway designed a home that embraces comfortable everyday living with the elevated style befitting a luxury vacation. She shares her thoughts on the inspiration behind the design in the tour below, immaculately captured by Mike Van Tassell.

From the designer… Located in upstate New York in the exclusive community of Silo Ridge Field Club, this retreat was created for the perfect getaway. This vacation home carries the essence of peace and relaxation. It begs for wine shared among friends and long nights gathered around the fireplace. And when the weather turns warmer, the grotto and spectacular views invite you to spend long summer days lounging and reading a good book. The lofty ceilings, warm wood, and beautiful stonework are the background for stunning lighting, modern touches, and cozy custom furnishings. And let’s not forget the entertaining – with a custom bar and wine cellar, golf simulator and pool room.

Can you tell us a bit about the beautiful home that we’re featuring today? What was the inspiration behind the design?

This home is located in a small, forested town near the Hudson Valley. We blended luxurious contemporary cabin allure with sleek, minimalist Japandi natural elements, focusing on texture, ample natural light, and expansive entertaining areas. These elements resulted in a harmonious retreat that confidently stands out from the traditional Hudson Valley aesthetic, exuding tranquility and peace.

What is your favorite moment in this home? Is there a piece or accent that you’re particularly thrilled with?

One of my favorite spaces in the home is the great room! There is so much to admire here, particularly the dramatic effect of the tall ceilings with the treatment, as well as the towering doors and windows that seamlessly integrate the serene view into both the home and the design.

What overall feeling did you hope your clients would have when they walked into their newly completed home for the first time?

The clients are a couple from NYC who really wanted an escape from the city’s hustle and bustle and also had plenty of room for hosting family and friends. Our goal was to create a home that fosters tranquility and peace as soon as you walk through the doors. We thoughtfully designed every part of the space, keeping this top of mind through the color palettes and textures and even maintaining the sprawling views of the forest.
