Set in the heart of Blue Hill, Maine, Studio Eastman reimagined this 2015 new build embracing the coastal town’s timeless charm. Erin Little’s photography highlights the transformation, where classic architectural elements like post-and-beam construction meet updated finishes—wide plank white oak floors, creamy warm walls, and a more relaxed, vibrant kitchen—bringing warmth and character to this once formal space.

From the designer… The goal for our Blue Hill Farmhouse project was to bring our clients’ 2015 new construction home in line with the story and architectural vernacular of the quiet coastal Maine town it belongs to. The home was adorned with beautiful dark wood beams, pine tongue & groove paneling, and a large stone fireplace in the main living space. Though some of the architectural elements of the home were classic, others felt out of place. We started by replacing the dark shiny floors with wide plank white oak and painting the teal blue walls a creamy warm white. We brought warmer materials into lighting fixtures, using aged bronze metal and linen shades as opposed to the original dated and cold satin nickel pieces. The Colonial kitchen felt far too formal and ornate for our young clients and their post-and-beam house, so we swapped the bright white cabinets for saturated forest green ones with dark bronze metal mesh panels.

In the powder bathroom, which connects to a beautiful foyer that we repurposed as a record-listening space, we used a bold and playful floral wallpaper to create a moody, yet classic, feel. The dark floral motif and bold natural colors feel connected to the rest of the first floor, while still creating a fun and unique use of the small space.
