In Iowa City, designer Brooke Mennen-Talsma of Brooke MT Interiors crafted a home that balances refined simplicity with everyday function. Photographed by Dan Rolling, this home pairs a soft, nature-inspired palette with thoughtful materials like warm white oak cabinetry, creamy stone surfaces, and textural leather stools—offering a fresh, livable take on transitional design.

From Brooke MT Interiors… Brooke MT Interiors had the honor of collaborating with Klosterman Construction on the Quincy Road Project from the very beginning—reviewing floor plans, breaking ground, and guiding the project through to final installation. This slab-style home, unique for the Midwest with no basement, was thoughtfully designed with a central storm room to provide safety during severe weather. The exterior walls are constructed with ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) block rather than traditional 2×4 framing, resulting in a highly durable and energy-efficient structure.

The interior reflects a vision of timeless livability, prioritizing ease of cleaning, practicality, and health-focused materials. A soothing palette of blues and greens, white oak accents, warm stone details, and soaring ceiling heights create a space that feels both grounded and elevated—perfectly tailored to the family’s everyday lifestyle.
