This Great Falls home is the perfect place to be on a warm summer day with the windows flung open or cozied up by the fire on a crisp fall evening. Fresh, welcoming, rustic, and refined this home checks all the boxes for a family who wants to gather in laid-back style. See how Alison Giese Interiors created this beautiful abode in the tour below.
From the designer… AGI was brought onto the project right as plans were completed. The clients hired us because they loved the layered, welcoming feel of our work. Although the size of the home was significant, they wanted it to feel approachable, so that family, pets, and friends would all feel at home. Refinement without pretension.
The location was a fantastically private, wooded lot in Great Falls, VA and we were initially inspired by the exterior masonry and material selections, which drove our choices for the interior finishes. Tumbled stone tile, hand-hewn iron elements, and our client’s love of the Pacific Northwest were great kick-off points for our selections. We relied on a symphony of natural materials: stone, wood, iron, leather and linen used in ways that felt fresh and welcoming.
Shortly after AGI was hired, the pandemic hit. Social distancing required limited contact, so presentations were done in the open, out of the back of my SUV. There were so many crazy ways we adjusted our process to stick to guidelines while keeping the project moving forward!
It was a lengthy project, but truly one I consider to be a “unicorn,” with wonderful clients, and a fantastic architectural and build team. After install I felt an immense source of pride at having weathered not only the pandemic but a personal out-of-state move as well, to deliver a home that provided a perfect backdrop to our clients’ next stage!
