Practically radiating with light and filled with natural and durable finishes, a forever family home was exactly what this newly stateside family hoped for. Hear from the designer and the homeowners in today’s tour and find out why they loved working with the incredible Ling Law of Ling Interiors.

From the designer… As a designer I love the use of natural light, incorporate into the design wherever possible; skylights, windows, sidelights, making all spaces light and airy. I adore using natural tones, natural materials, and woods, creating custom and curated pieces for my client spaces. We applied this same concept to the Surrey Farms project.

Our client really loved the idea of a modern farmhouse aesthetic with a light and airy feel. They liked the idea of adding accent colors around the house, married with a neutral overall aesthetic. Therefore, the house was designed around neutral and warm tones. We selected lighter colors and natural wood tones to give it a light and airy feel in the open-concept kitchen, living room, and dining room. We utilized dark and moody tones in the adjacent mudroom, laundry room and pantry to balance out the light and airy, while adding large windows to each of the spaces. At the same time, brass accents were added to go with the black ILVE range, making the entire space cohesive and transcending. The clients fell in love with their home, and are enjoying sweet moments.

From the homeowners…We bought our home in Surrey Farms in 2012 when we were living in London. We knew we wanted to live in Los Gatos because it was one of our favorite places in the bay area. We knew at some point we wanted to remodel the home and add additional living space. The style of the home when we bought it was older and contemporary, so we hoped to renovate and make it our own someday. We are a very active family who wanted our home to be comfortable yet elegant and have style that would last for years to come.

When we decided to renovate our home, we knew we wanted to have the help of Ling Interiors because we fell in love with her prior design work and home projects in our area. Her style is timeless yet current and after meeting with her, I knew we would make a great team. In working with Ling interiors, we knew we wanted the kitchen and the family room to be the focal point of the home because, like most, it is where we as a family spend most of our time. We also wanted the entire home to flow together in terms of colors and styles and finishes, but it was an overwhelming task for me. This is where Ling Interiors came in and blew us away. We were so pleased with the entire design of the home, and how each space has its own unique feel while it is all tied together throughout the home. We could not be happier.

Ling interiors also helped us with the furnishings and décor from her shop Home x Ling Interiors for our home. I knew I wanted white furniture but with three kids (and a dog!) I thought it would be unrealistic. Ling helped us select pieces for our home that could withstand the wear and tear of three children, yet also look elegant. We chose performance fabric for most of the pieces, and that has held up really well over time. Ling truly made our home exactly what we were hoping for. We cannot thank her enough. She is so talented and incredibly hardworking.
