From Danielle Rose Design Co... Originally built in 1885, this historic farmhouse-style home has a remarkable story rooted in preservation and renewal. First constructed at the edge of the pond it now overlooks, the home eventually fell into disrepair and, in the early 1990s, was carefully relocated to the top of the hill and reconstructed piece by piece, in an effort to preserve its original character and craftsmanship.
When our clients purchased the home 12 years ago, they approached its restoration with extraordinary care and intention. Deeply appreciative of the home’s history, they thoughtfully assembled a team that could help honor its legacy while adapting it for modern family life. The renovation and extension ultimately underwent a year-long architectural review process through the town’s historical society, ensuring every decision respected the integrity of the original structure.
The clients came to us with a clear vision: to create a home that felt classic yet fresh, rooted in tradition but designed for the realities of everyday living with a young family. They gravitated toward earthy tones, layered colors, timeless materials, and natural textures that would make the home feel warm, grounded, and effortlessly livable. Traditional prints and architectural detailing were paired with subtle modern touches, while statement stones and organic materials added richness and depth throughout the interiors.
A major priority throughout the project was preserving as many original details as possible. Original windows, moldings, and door and window casings were carefully restored, while new additions, such as custom V-groove paneling, were designed to feel historically appropriate and reflective of the home’s original architecture. One of the most meaningful restoration efforts centered around the staircase. While the original stairs were rich with character, they had significantly deteriorated over time. Each spindle was meticulously recreated by hand, honoring the original craftsmanship while ensuring the structure would endure for generations to come.
