Anything but a traditional beach house, but entirely traditional in its own right, this home carries the history of coastal community dating back to the 1700s with casual ease. Weeth Home created this timeless heritage home by blending the barefoot vibes of life on the water with classic elements referenced in the property’s architecture. See how the lightest of coastal touches turned out in the incredible tour below.

From the designer… These were some of my first clients, who trusted me with a living room refresh when I was just getting started as a designer. A few years later, I was so excited and grateful when they approached me to help them re-think their somewhat cramped and dated kitchen. Knowing that their aesthetic leaned classic, gravitating to a new take on traditional, we knew we wanted to create a “wow” kitchen that was still timeless while creating the perfect atmosphere for both the day-to-day needs of a young family. Most of the inspiration for the kitchen stemmed from imagery of inviting English Kitchens as well as samples of “living” materials, like brass, marble, plaster, and custom cabinetry that I knew would stand the test of time.

As we worked through the kitchen, we began to see opportunities to transform the adjoining spaces as well and it started to feel like we were tugging at a loose thread on a sweater. In the end, we decided to renovate most of the spaces in the 4000 square foot home, including: adding a ceiling to a two-story living room to create a new second floor primary suite; adding a new office space in the front of the house; renovating all of the bathrooms including the first floor powder room; and new furnishings & decor throughout.

This project is meaningful to me for a couple reasons! First, the clients. Anytime I’ve had the chance to work with a past client on a new project, it feels like we already speak the same design language and ideas seem to flow much easier. We already had established a level of trust which I’m so grateful for and that allowed me to push a bit outside my comfort zone from a design perspective. That growth is so rewarding!

Second (and somewhat related) is the overall aesthetic of this project. As our firm grows and develops, we’ve started to hone what we believe is our unique design point of view. Our studio is located less than a mile from the Atlantic, so the ocean is certainly an influence. That said, we want to evoke the feeling of being near the coast without being too heavy handed. At the same time, our small coastal community has roots dating back to the 1700s, so we have some very heritage-driven architectural influences. This project was an opportunity to explore where those worlds intersect; how we can blend more traditional, classic elements with the warmth and ease of life near the water.
