KJ Design Collective had a plan for this modern coastal home, to make it a perfect place to relax with family and friends. Subtle nods to their waterfront locale and ample cozy seating make this a bright and inviting space to spend time unwinding. Take a peek at the photos below to see how her clients will be lounging in style on their days off.
From the designer… The project centered around the clients’ dream of having a vacation home that was inviting, calm and relaxing. We drew inspiration from the area with understated coastal themes throughout. We highlighted the spaces with warm, inviting textures and modern light fixtures that contrasted against the beautiful shiplap ceilings. The main living area walls are flanked by our clients’ gorgeous art collection that really made a huge impact by bringing in subtle color stories. We wanted the furniture to be neutral, but also have unique details to them to complement the art collection.
One of our favorite areas in the home is the hanging chairs in the lounge area. We wanted to create a fun hangout spot that was great for taking photos. In order to do this we added an oversized triptych piece from Jetty Home that really made the backdrop.
The kitchen was brought to life with matte black hardware and fixtures that really shine against the white lacquered cabinets. We chose these oversized Rejuvenation pendants with a nautical ode to them to hang above the large island. To finish the space, we opted for these amazing wishbone chairs with a textured seat.
For the dining and living room areas we wanted to create an open concept, but still maintain the division of each space. To help with that we opted to create a conversation area with these gorgeous barrel chairs with a cane detailed back. Our client wanted a space where guests could watch TV, but also had a space to relax and lounge.
In the bedrooms, we carried the modern coastal palette by bringing in a bold wallpaper from Schumacher to one of the guest rooms with a palm motif. We also added a board and batten trim to the wall in the primary bedroom to create some visual interest without being too fussy. In the second guest bedroom, we kept the calm and inviting theme by adding a beautiful headboard with a leather strap detail. We also wanted the views of the intercostal waterway to be front and center so we positioned the bed across from the window. There is nothing like waking up to a water view!
