When the team at The LifeStyled Co set out to create a casual and comfortable home with a modernly styled space they used one simple rule; establish and stick to some keywords. In this remodeled family home, captured by LifeCreated Photography, you can see the results of their trust and dedication to the process. Filled with natural tones and textures while staying bright and modern, this home design will convert you to a rule follower, too! Read on to learn about their invaluable rule and how you can use it to transform your own abode.
Tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this project. Which room were you most eager to tackle?
Our clients are a busy family with three young children and ultimately love their neighborhood but their home was no longer working for them. Our main goals were to remove all of the dated Tuscan elements while lightening and brightening the space for a more airy feeling and an ease of casual, modern living!
From modern lighting to a farmhouse sink, this kitchen seems to have it all. How do you balance multiple styles for a cohesive look?
Balance is a great way to describe this space—with every material selected, each compliments one another to create layers and depth for a timeless space that this family can both live and grow in. Our signature and trademarked aesthetic called Organic Desert Living allows us to travel through “styles” and as long as there are natural elements and neutral colors, it all absolutely works!
We can always count on the LCo team to deliver a beautiful shelf. Can you give our readers a quick tip for shelf styling success?
When in doubt, place accessories in an odd number of pairings and use the full depth of the shelf! Use books in a variety of ways, not just on their ends… place them open on shelves, turned with their spines backward, or even laying flat, stacked upwards! Turn accessories and pieces on their sides and place them in different ways than their most traditional uses. Ensure multiple heights are achieved throughout the shelf and that each shelf styling moment can operate independently but also looks thoughtful when the eye takes it in, altogether.
The triple faucet sink in the guest bathroom is stunning! Tell us a bit about this piece.
One of our forever favorites- The Brockway sink from Kohler. The clients have three kids so we felt this was the perfect piece from a daily function standpoint along with a design element that keeps the space playful as they are young and elevated as they get older. There is a tall cabinet just outside the door to the bathroom where they can store anything that doesn’t fit into the lower basket storage so we didn’t have to sacrifice any storage!
Your tile choices in the bathrooms feature subtle texture and shade variations, and bold black stripes. Can you give us advice on how to choose a tile that will create an impact while remaining timeless?
No matter the tile or pattern, choosing neutral colors and finishes allows for the material within the space to remain ageless. Thinking deeper into how the tile is installed can make a huge impact on even the simplest tile, transforming it from ordinary to custom looking!
Is there a specific piece from this project that you are especially thrilled with?
The shelf behind the freestanding tub was a spur-of-the-moment idea. We wanted to fill the wall but also have function for the client. The floating shelf does showcase a pretty art moment but doubles as a place to set soap and bath supplies a freestanding tub doesn’t normally give you.
With design inspiration at everyone’s fingertips, what steps can someone take to infuse a distinctive look in their home?
Even while using Organic Desert Living™ as our umbrella, when we’re going for a super specific look, we use keywords… just like you want Google to show you what you want when you’re searching using keywords, we establish keywords for each project and stick closely to them. When something is feeling a little out of place, we revisit in comparison to our keywords and use them as a check and balance. Create your own keywords describing your project which can focus on aesthetics, feelings, places, or anything else that helps you both define and contain your creative direction!
