In today’s tour, Sarah and Courtney, of Ivy Interiors, share how they renovated nearly every square inch of this 1960s home, but we can’t seem to look away from the sweetest little nursery it holds. The wallcovering in the nursery seems to nod toward the delicate and subtle patterns found throughout this approachable and elegant home. Keep reading to see more of this beautiful abode, photographed by Angela Newton Roy.

From the designer… This beautiful 1960 stone home was designed for a growing family with two young children. The house had great bones, but the decor had not been updated since the original owners and felt dark and outdated. By using a neutral and calming color palette, along with layers of texture and pattern, we created a transitional style home that feels timeless, comfortable, and inviting.

Our biggest undertaking was the kitchen. The space was small in comparison to the home’s footprint and did not include enough storage or seating. We tackled these issues by adding a 7-foot island, reworking the cabinet layout to maximize storage, and creating more square footage by pushing back an awkward wall bump out. By widening the cased opening into the dining room, we were able to make the room feel larger and allow more light to pour into the space. Incorporating design elements such as oak shelving, natural stone countertops, and mixed metal finishes allowed us to achieve a sophisticated and layered design.

The living room came with its own set of design challenges as it was an oversized, formal room that felt cold and stark. Our goal was to make the space feel cozy and functional for their family, while also honoring the existing traditional elements such as the historic marble fireplace and ornate crown molding. We achieved this by adding custom built-in shelving, a sizable storage bench, patterned textiles, and woven shades.

One of our favorite rooms that we designed for this project was the laundry room. The counter to ceiling zellige tile backsplash set the tone for this organic and practical space. Each room in this project truly embodies the Ivy Interiors mission; to create warm, sophisticated spaces that inspire joy in everyday living.
