Asha Maia Design gave a custom new-build in the heart of Alexandria, Virginia, the charm and character it needed to feel like home. Focused on creating a space that was as layered, interesting, and warm, Asha’s design mixes vibrant hues, textured finishes, and architectural details giving every room rich personality. The home now offers a balance of style and comfort, ideal for both family downtime and entertaining guests. Take a look at how this new build evolved into a cozy, welcoming space in the tour below, photographed by MW Concepts.

From the designer… The Rosemont Project was all about taking a plain, custom new-build and giving it the charm and personality this young, dynamic family deserved. Both busy professionals working in the political world, the homeowners wanted a space where they could entertain friends and unwind at the end of a long day. They dreamed of a home that felt like them—layered, interesting, and warm.
We started by building a rich, cohesive color palette that blended blues, greens, warm clays, and soft neutrals. Lime paint was used strategically in the family room and office, adding depth and an interesting finish to these functional yet visually impactful spaces. This mix of hues brought vibrancy and warmth throughout the home without feeling overwhelming, creating a foundation for the design. We leaned into textures and patterns to add depth and make every space feel thoughtfully curated. Our mix of classic and contemporary style came through in every room, from vintage finds to custom pieces, creating a home that feels timeless but not stuffy.
One of our favorite moments was designing the parlor. This room was completely transformed with the addition of coffered ceilings, panel molding, and beautiful millwork that took the space from basic to breathtaking. These architectural elements added depth and refinement, while carefully selected textiles, like patterned drapes and textured upholstery, softened the space. The result is a room that exudes understated elegance, perfect for everything from quiet evenings to lively gatherings.

The dining room was another showstopper. We wrapped the walls in a moody, deep teal floral wallpaper and added panel molding for that perfect architectural touch. The antique inspired bar cart and brass-lined mirror above the sideboard brought in just the right mix of old-school charm and personality. It’s a room ready for anything, whether it’s a casual dinner party or a full-on holiday feast.

The family room and office became showcases for lime paint, a detail that elevated the walls with subtle texture and visual interest. These spaces, designed to balance function and style, underscore how practical rooms can still have distinctive character.

In the living room, a flat panel molding feature wall introduced an element of subtle sophistication, perfectly complementing the existing stone fireplace. With curated artwork and furnishings selected to enhance the space, the living room now feels warm and inviting—ideal for both everyday relaxation and entertaining guests.
This project was about creating a home that feels as welcoming as it is beautiful. Through layered textures, thoughtful details, and a curated mix of classic and contemporary design, the Rosemont home became a reflection of the homeowners’ style and the life they’ve built together. Every element, from bold design choices to subtle finishes, contributes to a space that is timeless, personal, and endlessly inviting.
