Shiny Shed’s philosophy is that a good design should defy a single, definitive style. Guided by this ethos they designed this bathroom with the craftsman and California bungalow style of the original architecture in mind while incorporating touches of European design elements. The result is a serene blend of old-world character and the enduring sophistication of a Parisian boutique hotel, beautifully captured by photographer Jessica Burke in the tour below.

From the designer… The house was built in 1908 and was designed by renowned architect Bernard Maybeck, best known as the architect behind San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts. It’s located in Blithedale Canyon in Mill Valley, CA. Like many houses in the area, it’s a beautiful bungalow meets craftsman-style home. These influences played a role in how we thought about updating the space to make sure it fit with the rest of the historic house. It was important to us that the fixtures, finishes and paint colors would withstand the test of time. We brought the Water Monopoly tub in from Europe and it’s the real showstopper of the room with the marble behind it. The client is a graphic designer with impeccable taste, so it was wonderful to collaborate with her throughout the process.
