From the designer… Our client had found their forever home, nestled on the top of a hill at the end of a quiet lane. The interiors, however, had not been seen many updates since the 80’s and were in need of some major TLC. An unfortunate plumbing leak jumpstarted this renovation, once the homeowner realized they would need to replace the flooring through most of the home. They seized the opportunity to engage our services and embark on their dream home remodel.
We worked closely with our client to determine their lifestyle and storage needs in the kitchen, and then developed a layout that better serves the way they use the space. Striking a delicate balance between function and aesthetics, we opted to remove most upper cabinets while ensuring that every item found its place through thoughtful design solutions. We added built-in millwork at the dining area with the same finish as the kitchen cabinets so that it feels connected- making the kitchen feel bigger. The additional millwork allowed us to house most of the small appliances and other kitchen tools, freeing the countertops of any clutter. We also designed a custom built in glass hutch where they can store their treasured items and heirloom pieces. Taking cues from our clients’ passion for gardening, we found palette inspiration in the terracotta planters, lush foliage and organic landscaping that adorned their outdoor space. We chose to invest in a statement marble slab backsplash, but paired it with a durable, low-maintenance and concrete-look quartz countertop. The island takes on its own personality, with furniture style legs and a warm white oak finish that ties in with the adjacent custom hutch.
The original primary bathroom footprint presented a challenge with its cramped vanity and very limited shower space. Collaborating with our client, we reimagined the layout by borrowing space from an underutilized walk-in closet located next to the bathroom. Every detail was thoughtfully considered to offer a serene and indulgent experience. The curbless wet room features aged brass shower controls conveniently located at the shower entry, and a heated towel bar within easy reach of both shower and tub. The tub itself was designed with a striking marble perimeter, which doubles as a bench seat. We went with a subdued, earthy palette inspired by the surrounding views and eucalyptus trees. The slight variation of color in our tile selections play with the natural light and shadow throughout the day, evoking a tranquil escape within the home.
