This year marks a significant milestone for Salt Design Co. as they celebrate 10 years in the interior design industry. Today you can tour this tranquil home in Sea Bright, NJ, while Founder and Creative Director, Sarah Brady shares firsthand how she blends coastal design with functional living and reflects on the valuable lessons learned during her decade-long journey in the business. Congratulations on celebrating 10 years of business, what an incredible milestone! Reflecting on your decade-long journey, what would you say is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned?

Thank you so much! Reflecting on our decade-long journey, the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is the importance of adaptability while staying true to our core values. The design industry is ever-evolving, and being open to change while maintaining our commitment to creating timeless, purposeful spaces has been key to our success. Embracing new ideas and technologies, listening to our clients, and fostering a passionate, dedicated team have all contributed to our growth and resilience.

Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate the profound impact that well-designed spaces can have on how people feel and function in their everyday lives. This has led us to place a greater emphasis on functionality and the seamless integration of beauty and practicality.

How has your approach to design changed since you began Salt Design Co.?

Since founding Salt Design Co., my approach to design has evolved significantly. In the beginning, our focus was primarily on aesthetics and creating visually stunning spaces. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate the profound impact that well-designed spaces can have on how people feel and function in their everyday lives. This has led us to place a greater emphasis on functionality and the seamless integration of beauty and practicality. We’ve also become more intentional about understanding our clients’ unique needs and lifestyles. This deeper level of engagement ensures that every design decision is made with their comfort and joy in mind. Additionally, we continue to refine our processes and explore new ideas, always aiming to create spaces that are both timeless and purposeful.

When looking through a five year lens, where do you see Salt Design Co. heading? What goals do you have for your business and brand?

Looking through a five-year lens, I see Salt continuing to expand our reach and influence in the interior design industry. Our goals include growing our team with talented designers who share our passion for creating timeless, functional spaces. We aim to take on more diverse and large-scale projects, both residential and perhaps commercial at some point, that challenge us creatively and allow us to showcase our distinctive style. We also aspire to enhance our brand presence through innovative marketing strategies and sharing our design philosophy with a broader audience. We have been in the process of creating more social media content like blogs, videos, and different shopping guides. Ultimately, our goal is to remain at the forefront of the industry, continually pushing the boundaries of design while staying true to our core values of intentionality, functionality, and beauty.

Can you tell us a bit about the beautiful home that we’re touring today? What was the inspiration behind the design?

The beautiful home being featured today is a testament to the harmonious blend of coastal living and luxurious design. Located on a barrier island with stunning views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Navesink River, the inspiration behind this project was to capture the breathtaking scenery while creating a serene, earthy ambiance throughout the home. Every design choice was made to complement the natural beauty of its surroundings. Collaborating closely with John Goodhue from Goodhue Brother Builders, we meticulously designed the main living areas, bathrooms, and primary bedroom to seamlessly integrate with the landscape. The home’s angled architecture is accentuated by elegant archways in the main living spaces, soft white walls with contrast trim, and large windows that frame the magnificent views.

The kitchen features rich wood tones on the island, oversized cement pendants, and a custom antique door with reeded glass leading to the pantry, adding unexpected elements of character and warmth. For moments of relaxation and privacy, we curated a cozy den with a warm, inviting palette, perfect for remote work or leisurely TV watching. The bathrooms blend style and functionality, featuring durable quartz countertops and resilient flooring, with ample storage to meet the needs of a modern family. Finally, the primary bedroom is designed as a serene oasis, filled with natural light and adorned with soothing earth tones, providing a tranquil retreat at the end of each day. This home truly embodies the essence of coastal luxury, offering an idyllic retreat for the whole family.

The part of this home’s design that epitomizes Salt’s style is the seamless integration of natural beauty with elegant, functional interiors. This is evident in the way we prioritized capturing the panoramic ocean and river views, using soft white walls with contrast trim as a canvas, and incorporating rich wood tones and custom elements like the antique pantry door with reeded glass. Our style is all about creating timeless, curated spaces that feel both luxurious and inviting. The serene, earthy ambiance throughout the home, the use of elegant archways, and the blend of practical design with unexpected touches all reflect our commitment to intentional, purposeful design.
