Clean, layered and full of texture, this Chevoix Hills remodel brings casual comfort to the next level. Deanna Jacoby, of Jenn Feldman Designs, took point on this remodel and brought the owners’ vision to life. Rich materials and textures with a European influence were expertly mixed with California midcentury modern silhouettes to create a family home with surprises around every corner. Scroll through the gorgeous photos by Amy Bartlam to see just how they did it.

From the designer… Our client came to us after purchasing this 1950 California traditional home, desiring a clean, updated aesthetic while keeping true to the rich charm and original details of the older home – original hardwood floors, moldings, and windows. We worked hard to redesign the kitchen with a more modern layout and feel, but with textural elements that felt more rooted in European influence. We also tackled a full redesign of the family room and gut renovations of both minor bathrooms.

Our clients were incredibly connected to textiles and textures in all selected materials, a result of being seasoned travelers and influenced by many trips to Europe and Asia. They wanted a functional yet minimalist kitchen, with the show-stopping stone countertop selection being the anchor and focal point of the space. They were drawn to textural elements in the key pieces of furniture in the family room and game area – boucle armchairs, vintage textiles, and fluted millwork. The final result was a collected, unique, and comfortable family home. The emotional connection to the process and elements was incredibly detailed and very specifically owner-driven; anything we did had to feel authentic to them and how we told their life story in the design of the home.
