Infused with rustic charm and hidden storage, while tastefully integrating the homeowner’s cherished global treasures into the serene surroundings, this charming getaway offers both solace and warm hospitality for future guests. From the designer… Our client was retiring, relocating from the North Carolina area and loved the Lake Winnipesaukee region. They found a large lakefront property that included an existing cottage tucked down a winding dirt driveway, set in a clearing yet surrounded fully by trees and nature. They knew they wanted to build a lakefront home on the property, and were looking to refresh the cottage with the goal to create a space that would be both comfortable for them to occupy while their lakefront home was being completed, as well as their guests in the future. The Cottage draws inspiration from its surroundings; with a double height kitchen, rustic trusses and airy windows the space is both open and inviting. Despite its modest size, this cottage boasts all of the modern creature comforts; mudroom with custom seating, primary suite, 3 season sunroom & patio, an office, open concept kitchen and dining with a built in bar in the living room, plus two additional guest bedrooms and bathroom on the second floor! When designing the guest bath upstairs, we were left with excess space under the eaves; instead of losing this space we worked with the architect to create a hidden storage area tucked behind a secret bookshelf/door. As avid travelers, our client brought with them an eclectic collection of antiques and findings from all over the globe; we created a serene backdrop to highlight and incorporate their treasures.
