A short walk from the ocean, this four bedroom, hundred-year-old, Spanish Revival in Montecito’s Hedgerow neighborhood was reimagined by Betsy Burnham. This thoughtfully expanded residence offers a blend of accessible luxury and comfort designed for relaxation and entertaining. Ye Rin Mok Photography captured the homes picturesque surroundings and serene and inviting interiors seen just below.
From the designer… Our busy, highly-programmed Los Angeles-based clients asked for an accessible but exhilarating home where they could decompress and recharge with family and comfortably welcome guests. Marrying timeless details to modern choices, we set out to embrace and adapt Santa Barbara architectural vernacular with a focus on the beauty of the landscape and local climate just beyond the doors. Materials and furnishings were selected to be memorable and transporting, but never fussy. A Sebastian Cox kitchen by deVOL UK opens to the yard through pocketing steel and glass doors. Limestone lines the primary bath while river-rock grounds those of the teenaged sons. Clean-lined, classic furniture pieces and woven or embroidered fabrics served the clients’ love of comfort, color and touch. Long-treasured family art pieces were given pride of place and the terra cotta and white oak flooring, reclaimed ceiling beams, whimsical plaster details and handmade patterned tile emphasize the home’s welcoming character. It’s a grown up, barefoot house.
