Set within a picturesque Pleasanton vineyard, this home had plenty of grandeur but lacked the functionality needed for a modern family of five. Twig & Oak Design reimagined the space, improving flow, maximizing storage, and introducing a refined yet inviting aesthetic. With handmade tile, custom walnut cabinetry, and a striking 12-foot kitchen island, every detail was chosen to bring warmth, flow, and a little everyday luxury to this busy home. From the designer... The Machado project, nestled within a scenic vineyard and surrounded by lush gardens, set out to elevate a stately yet traditional home, optimizing both its functionality and flow for a busy family of five. The original layout, with its disjointed, compartmentalized spaces, lacked adequate storage and offered little in the way of a central gathering point—especially in the kitchen. Our vision was to transform these segmented areas into cohesive, practical spaces that would breathe new life into the home. We introduced a mudroom, a dedicated laundry room, a show-stopping kitchen, a thoughtfully designed pantry, and a refreshed family room—all tailored to enhance everyday living.

To achieve this, we reworked walls and doorways, refining the flow between these key family areas. Our clients were eager to incorporate natural stone, hand-crafted tiles, and custom walnut cabinetry to infuse the home with a luxurious, yet organic feel. The walnut doors leading into the pantry and laundry room, for example, bring an unexpected elegance to what are typically utilitarian spaces.

Given the family’s love for hosting large gatherings, the kitchen had to be the centerpiece of their home. We designed a dramatic 12-foot island topped with striking Arabescato marble that established an atmosphere of warmth and refinement, making it not just a workspace, but a gathering place where memories could be crafted and shared.
