This peaceful home, located in Sonoma, is a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the family’s primary house in San Francisco. Embracing the surrounding landscape’s beauty, Anja Michals transformed the property’s interior into a personalized haven, blending cozy family spaces with elegant touches that echo the outdoor serenity. Jessica Burke perfectly captured the quiet comfort in the photos below.
From the designer… Our client lives in San Francisco and this is their second home, located in Sonoma. As a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, our design approach for this space was influenced by the beautiful vines and big oak trees on the property and the surrounding natural beauty of the wine country landscape.
The home already had amazing bones to work with so this project entailed an extensive interior update personalizing it to meet the clients’ needs. The intent was to use calming paint colors and add layers throughout the house. Our client is a young family who likes to entertain so we designed a great room, including a relaxed formal living room, featuring Lawson Fenning sofa and chairs. The dining area has a beautiful ebonized farm table made by Amber Lewis and a Jeffery Alan Marks oversized pendant.
In the family room, we created a cozy space for all the family to hang out. Here, we designed a custom white oak bar with a beautiful green stone backsplash and added a special touch with a custom Serena Dugan art piece. Both elements reminded the client and myself of the outdoor landscape
Upstairs we delivered farmhouse to the guest bedroom, girls bedroom and primary bedroom, the latter featuring a reading lounge with a vintage Italian curved sofa and serene office area.
