This inviting kitchen in Bend, Oregon, was thoughtfully designed by Clouz Houz to be both highly functional and beautifully curated, with every detail serving a distinct purpose. The space masterfully combines the earthy warmth of ranch living with the timeless, cozy sophistication of a Nancy Meyers film. The result is a home that embodies how we live and gather, celebrating the comfort of home-cooked meals and meaningful conversations. Captured by Zee Wendell, this laid-back kitchen not only serves as the heart of the home but also invites you to stay a little longer.

From the designer… This project is deeply personal to us—it’s our own home in the rural town of Tumalo, Oregon, a charming ranch-style property that was untouched for decades. Originally, we purchased the home as an investment with the intention of renovating and reselling, but as we began planning the work, we quickly realized it was deserving of more care and attention than a typical “flip.” We fell in love with the house and its property and decided to pour our hearts into it, transforming it into something truly special. This home has become a blueprint for our design ideas and concepts, serving as a canvas to showcase our design aesthetic.
The kitchen renovation was a standout part of the project, with a clever “aha” moment that significantly elevated its functionality. The original kitchen was small, dark, and dated, but by lengthening one wall by just 20 inches, we were able to incorporate a full-height cabinet for a built-in fridge, an appliance garage, and additional storage for items like trays, platters and smaller appliances. This slight but impactful change allowed us to maximize every square inch, making the kitchen not only feel larger but also perform like a much bigger space. We also converted the former laundry room into a pantry, which now holds all our food and cooking essentials—an absolute game-changer for how we cook and entertain.

Ultimately, this project isn’t just about achieving a look—it’s about capturing a feeling of warmth, familiarity, and a sense of place that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in.

Our goal was to create a kitchen that felt timeless and reflective of Tumalo’s ranching and farming heritage. To achieve this, we used organic and natural materials like Clé Pantry Pavers in “Pumice,” Riad Zellige tiles that wrap the hood, and Taj Mahal Quartzite for the countertops. The 6″ V-Groove planks on the walls adds warmth and charm, while a freestanding counter-height table, custom-made by a local artisan, serves as a functional island in the smaller space. The dark-stained cedar ceiling ties beautifully with the custom stain on the table, creating a cohesive look. We also relied on thoughtfully placed Mullan sconces in antique bronze to provide both function and beauty, especially since adding more ceiling lighting wasn’t an option with the roof construction.
This home is so much more than a renovation to us—it’s a reflection of our love for design and our belief in thoughtful, intentional spaces. What started as a project has become a home that tells a story, blending timeless design with practical solutions and a nod to the history of the area. It’s a space we’re incredibly proud of, and one that has already inspired so many of our future projects.
