This Dallas home was completely transformed from its low ceilings and modest spaces into a haven of timeless charm and comfort. With layered neutrals, intricate cabinetry, and natural materials, Tête-à-tête seamlessly blended English cottage character with Southern elegance. Captured beautifully by Lindsay Brown, the result is a home that feels warm, inviting, and effortlessly lived-in.

From the designer… This remodel began with a family who was craving comfort above all else- the Homeowner requested a place that felt relaxing and restful for her family of four. The existing architecture of the 1950’s house had low ceilings, not overly generous-sized rooms, and understated trimwork. Architectural plans were provided by Gantt Design that included an expansion of the second floor for the two young boys and a reworking of the kitchen and connecting areas, however so much of what helps us perceive space as comfortable has to do with materials.

As we got to know the homeowner, we learned that she was a self-professed lover of southern interiors. We paired this with the 50s architecture and found a balance in the middle with a garden cottage aesthetic concept. We played with layering neutrals like the crisp barely off-white walls with a toasty beige, inviting blue-grays, and warm dusty pinks. It was important to retain the trimwork throughout to keep any updates in the house feeling intentional. Intricate cabinetry was also prioritized and one of the main concept drivers. Shaker cabinets with intricate brass accents were paired with walnut to create warmth and a feeling of history. We selected natural stones where possible and opted for quartz in the kitchen to keep the space low maintenance. The end result is a house that feels unfussy and lived-in, but also beautiful and, most importantly, comfortable enough to settle into at the end of the day.
