What began as a renovation and second-story addition quickly evolved into a complete new build when the existing structure of this Park City house proved unsalvageable. AE Designs embraced the challenge, crafting a warm and minimal retreat that takes full advantage of the breathtaking mountain views. Captured by Lindsay Salazar , this serene and thoughtfully designed home highlights the creativity and adaptability needed to navigate unforeseen obstacles during construction.

From the designer… This job started as a renovation and second story addition but once the demo began, we found the current structure was not worth saving. With this news we took the opportunity to add more square footage to both levels and have more freedom with the overall layout — one of our main goals being to accentuate as many beautiful views as possible. This home overlooks the mountains so large windows were a must. There were a lot of challenges with this job, especially it beginning as a renovation turned into a new build! Our clients and our team had to pivot on the fly to a huge change in the scope of work and in a way to not further delay construction. I think it proved the point that you always have to be flexible during construction because you never know what will come your way.

Although this house is in the mountains, the client wanted a bright, minimal and calming vibe for the interior.

My favorite room in this house is the primary bathroom. Once we added more square footage to the second story, we were able to incorporate a large bathroom with all the bells & whistles. It is a really big space but feels so calm and tranquil inside. The freestanding tub in front of the window frames gorgeous mountain views. The arched vanity also makes a very large vanity area feel more intimate. The use of the tadelakt (plaster) on the walls provides warmth and texture without being overwhelming.
