Set in the tranquil seaside town of Encinitas, California, this home is a true reflection of its coastal surroundings. Jessica Reynaud Design drew inspiration from the ocean views, blending natural materials like stone, Zellige tile, and warm wood to craft a serene and inviting space. Captured beautifully by photographer Madeline Tolle, the home’s transformation features open, airy rooms with custom-built details and subtle architectural touches. From the stone backsplash in the kitchen to the calming blue tile in the bathroom, every element feels perfectly at home in this peaceful retreat.
From the designer… The ocean view location of this project was a huge source of inspiration, and we used it to create an elevated, natural and calming palette. In the kitchen, the stone backsplash was a strong driver of the design. In addition to the stone backsplash, adding shiplap to the original skylight highlighted the feature- when it was originally an eyesore and a bit awkward in the space. The living space was given a complete overhaul as well. Where there were once dated and dark built ins, these were replaced with hanging pendants and a raised ceiling for more of a feeling of openness.
In the bathroom, the floor plan was completely re-worked, adding a larger vanity and shower with a beautiful and calming light blue zellige tile. I love the unique touch of the travertine sink- it brings in the warm stone tone that’s in the kitchen and living spaces, without being too overwhelming.
The entry point was completely opened up and built ins were customized to fit around the new round window. By adding beams and paneling to the ceiling, it gives a unique feeling to the space, and architecturally creates a space within a space even though the walls were all removed.
