Guided by their client’s desire to keep the Mediterranean architecture, KJ Design Collective blended traditional elements with a touch of modernity to create a cozy cohesiveness in this Miami home. Designed to counterbalance the rich, dark wood-paneled ceilings that grace the heart of this exquisite home, bright whites and earthy hues create an airy ambiance that feels fresh and welcoming. From the designer… Project Villa Arches included a renovation of the living room and entryway, a partial kitchen update, and a remodel of the pool house and bath. The clients wanted to remain true to the Mediterranean architecture of the home while making it feel modern with hints of a coastal aesthetic for the pool house. The clients wanted an airy feel throughout the home to contrast with the dark wood paneled ceilings in the main house.
To revamp the kitchen, we added new hardware, installed a beautiful Mystery White Marble top, installed a new backsplash from Bedrosians, removed outdated overhead lighting, and transformed the coffee bar into a modern nook. We also added new furnishings throughout to complement the new aesthetic. One of our favorite features of the living room is the addition of floating shelves with a Paxton hardware beverage rail in brushed brass.
In order to create a more open space we hired our contractor to bring up several arches in the home’s entryway. The existing space felt dark, and outdated so by taking advantage of the height we were able to open the arches up. By doing this we created a beautiful focal point from the entrance to the kitchen. We also painted the entire space a lighter crisp white and used Sherwin Williams Retreat to add contrast in the dining spaces. To create a sense of cohesiveness we carried this color into the family room built in and kitchen island.
The pool house remodel was the largest scope of this project. We added beautiful wall paneling throughout the space, new furnishings, new lighting, and overhauled the existing bathroom. We wanted the space to feel warm and inviting with coastal nods. We also wanted to ensure the wall paneling was the true star of the show. We used the paneling to build out hidden doors to the bathroom and storage closet. To finish off the space, we gave the existing bar a mini makeover by painting it a beautiful muted green and updating the accessories.
