Tell us a bit about this project and the goals for this space.

The couple wanted their own bathroom space as their children are approaching their teenage years—adding a ensuite bathroom gives the kids free reign of the main floor bathroom while providing a more private and functional space for the couple to get ready in the mornings. They also requested a ‘hotel’ vibe for their bedroom; a relaxing respite from a busy schedule with three children!

What was the inspiration behind the design and the color palette?

The husband/father was raised in the agriculturally-rich Prairies, while his wife was born on Canada’s East coast, with a more coastal feel. I drew color inspiration from each landscape, gray-blue for the sea and golden ochre for the Prairies.

We love the corner reading nook and that chair! Where did you find it?

The beautiful chair in the corner is an antique I found at a garage sale and the upholstery is original.

Were there any challenges when designing this space?

Using the cement tiles on the vanity wall, and continuing them into the shower was a challenge (because the cement tile is thicker than the white penny tile)… the whole lower section had to be built out just right so that the edges would sit flush.
