This charming blue cottage sits atop a wooded sand dune with unique views of the Michigan landscape from every window. The designer, Maggie, of Margaret of York worked closely with architect Eric Easterling to plan this cheery cottage home. They knew right from the start that each side should be treated as a front elevation due to its unique location and majestic views. The result is a beautiful sun-washed home that creates smiles around every corner. Take a tour of this cozy home with notes from the effervescent designer herself!
From the designer… As you enter through the front door, you step into a beautiful bright entry. A beautiful grasscloth table adorned with flowers is the perfect drop zone for phones and keys. Just off each side of the entry are two pale blue custom dutch doors. One leading to the laundry room which is wrapped in a blue and white block print wallpaper. The custom cabinetry painted in a deep navy blue is adorned with brass pulls. What a happy space to do one of life’s biggest chores!
The interior walls are crisp white shiplap (Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore) providing the perfect backdrop for the furnishings which are rich in texture and soft colors. We wanted to evoke the feeling of comfort at the beach and with the sun-washed linens, hemp wrapped sconces, and rattan mixed in we achieved just that! Accordion glass doors open completely up to the back deck creating more livable space perfect for summer nights and entertaining. The dining space provided the ideal area for entertaining friends yet is family friendly. The navy slipcovered chairs, the beaded chandelier, and the reclaimed oak table keep this space casual yet elegant. The real showstopper however, is the gorgeous herringbone wood ceiling detail.
The amazing blue and white marble backsplash was the starting point in the kitchen. The bold yet classic design of this tile provided just the right amount of color and gave this classic white kitchen a vibrant punch! The extra large island provides ample opportunity and space for entertaining beach friends! Custom cabinetry, rattan chairs, and timeless polished nickel lantern style pendants keep this kitchen beautiful, classic, and inviting. Off of the kitchen is a custom banquette and wet bar. An accordion window creates a pass through to the dining area of the deck, making serving easy and perfect for little ones with sandy feet and hungry tummies.
The Owner’s Suite is the perfect retreat after a long day in the sun. It is draped with beautiful patterned curtains, soft linens, and wood beaded chandelier. The owner’s bath is wrapped in a dusty blue grasscloth which is paired with a beautiful blue and white encaustic tile giving the space some personality. A soaking tub sits in front of a large window with the most beautiful panoramic view of the lake below.
