Based in The Cotswolds and London, Osborn Interiors, a design firm lead by Bee Osborn, create spaces that immediately exude a warmth, familiarity and comfort. Bee and her team are purveyors of organic luxury and that couldn’t be more evident in today’s tour. If you’ve ever wondered what a mashup of Iris’ cozy English cottage and Amanda’s California mansion from The Holiday would look like—this is it. Equal parts intimate and luxurious, one might say that this meet-cute of design styles is even better than a Nancy Meyers cinematic experience. From Osborn Interiors… Our goal was to restore the cottage to its full glory, while modernising it by adding an extension to the rear that doubled the size of the property. In the process, we retained natural timber beams and brought stone walls back to life, as well as introducing lime plaster and timber cladding to walls and ceilings throughout the space to add warmth and interest.
Project Scope
The complete renovation of a two up two down derelict cottage, featuring a back extension that doubled the footprint of the property and introduced a generous master suite as well as a large open plan living area and kitchen complete with island.
The extension required extensive groundworks and a large retaining wall to be built 4m below ground level. This created a dual level aspect between the old cottage and the new extension, separating the dining area in the old cottage from the kitchen in the extension with wall to wall steps. Due to the fortified wall being below ground level and having no windows, 3 large crittal doors were installed on the opposite wall that open out onto the sunken terrace, flooding the open plan living and kitchen with light and bringing the outside in. Layered levels of planting add interest to the view from the interior and the garden landscape that was also designed by Osborn Interiors.
