From the designer… This house was a one level ranch-style home to a busy family of five. They wanted help opening it up to entertain and welcome their friends and family more often. We worked around a beautiful existing tree outside their kitchen, so rather than going out, we went up, raising the ceilings in the great room to nearly 20 feet!
Since one of the homeowners grew up in a home with cathedral-like ceilings, she knew she wanted to emulate that feeling of spaciousness. The tall ceilings were the homeowner’s nod to her childhood home. They also wanted to incorporate as much storage and functionality as possible. For example, they wanted their children’s playroom to also behave as an occasional guest room, so we added a full-size built-in daybed as well as a hidden Murphy bed into their millwork. We also added a recessed linen closet into their bonus room bathroom to house their guest’s bed linens when the bed wasn’t in use.
