This organic modern retreat by Tays & Co. Design Studios reimagines the traditional lake cabin with a warm yet distinctly contemporary aesthetic. Captured by Spacecrafting Photography, the home offers year-round comfort for a growing family. Designed to embrace the rhythms of Minnesotan lake life—from summer boating to winter snowmobiling—this home is crafted for both gathering and solitude, blurring the lines between indoors and out.

From Tays & Co. Design Studios… After seeing another Tays & Co. project in person through friends of theirs, the homeowners reached out to us to help them design this cabin. They knew they didn’t want it to look like a typical log cabin but something more unique to their style with a modern aesthetic, while still feeling warm and appropriate for the area. They wanted to bring the outdoors in, embracing all that lake life has to offer. We set out on a journey with them to develop each space to meet the needs of not only the couple, but their growing family. The space needed to accommodate folks of all ages and be functional in all seasons, as the cabin would be used year around. Storage for both winter activities, like snowmobiling, as well as swim and boating gear for the warmer months with lake activities, was essential. Spaces for family and friends to gather together was also important, while still allowing each guest their own space to slip away, rest, and enjoy the views privately.

Immediately upon opening the stunning, custom foyer door, you are welcomed by a three-sided fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the lake views. You are then led into the great room, kitchen, and dining spaces – all open to each other to allow for folks to gather together. With the large wall of doors out to the patio and covered deck, you are able to truly bring the outdoors in, and double the size of the living space in the warmer months.

Aside from the main shared spaces in the cabin, there are many other special features including: a sauna with a nearly floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the lake and a lower level family room and bar that is wrapped entirely in wood of different shades, creating a warm, inviting, yet moody feel to watch the game, play a round of shuffle board, enjoy a beverage at the bar, or just sit by the uniquely curved fireplace in the center of the room.

Also located in the lower level are three guest bedrooms and a room coined “the ready room”, which is a community space that has laundry, showers, a soaking tub, custom designed locker storage, two toilet rooms, and a super cool double-sided sink vanity in the center of it all. This space was about making it all happen in one large room for everyone that may be staying in the guest rooms without having to take up so much space to create individual bathrooms for all three lower level guest rooms.
