Perched high on Spyglass Hill, this home has earned the name “See-Through Spyglass” for the uninterrupted ocean view that greets you the moment the front door opens. Designed by Erika Marini of FIXE Design House and photographed by Charlotte Lea Photography, this minimal modern coastal project draws unexpected inspiration from the client’s love of fashion. Hints of the client’s wardrobe appear in the colors, finishes, and custom touches, giving the Newport Beach home its uniquely tailored character.

From FIXE Design House… Designing a home for a family of five that feels as effortless as it does chic is no small task. Because we were hired so early in the process, we were gifted time and the opportunity to truly understand our clients’ needs. We developed an intimate understanding of how they live and how we could interpret a design that felt true to their personalities and lifestyle. One of my favorite quotes we coined for this project resonates deeply: “She’s always dressed and ready for a party.” This home is being lovingly used by the family of five and their pup as they create memories but with durable, natural materials that feel both casual and elevated, the home offers effortless comfort and a setting that’s always ready for hosting gatherings.
Our client is not afraid of color or taking chances and was always mindful of respecting our design process. Collaboration between client and designer is intimate and crucial to creating a successful outcome. My first career path began in fashion design and eventually led me into interior design. Because our client shares a love for fashion, we incorporated colors from her wardrobe into the wallpaper and used a moody Roman clay plaster in the powder room. Her father was a jeweler, so we focused on bespoke furnishings that became our jewels.

The home was featured in a local home design tour that allowed us to share it with design aficionados. With this focus in mind, we brought in special art curators to collaborate with. We had the immense pleasure of featuring artists through this relationship, adding the most special finishing touches to complete the home.

As we worked to create a seamless indoor-outdoor environment, it became imperative to maintain design continuity. The pool and backyard sit just steps from the beautiful glass doors that disappear to reveal the ocean. What emerged is a unified environment where every material, view, and moment feels naturally linked from the front door to the ocean beyond.
