Susannah Holmberg Studios created a wonderfully bold yet relaxing environment in this Utah home. Her choice to blend deep hues with natural textures evinces a clear design forward aesthetic while remaining thoroughly family friendly. From the designer… Our clients for this Park city walk-out tasked us to choose finishes and furnishings to bring life and character to an otherwise blank slate. Our goal was to create a space that serves a dual purpose: to entertain friends and family and to be an intimate space for their family. To that end, we added a pill-shaped island to the kitchen which serves as a gathering space and makes sense of a triangular shaped floor plan. The dining table doubles as a serving area for guests and a craft table for our clients’ kids. We used design forward features, but balanced them with natural materials and colors, so that potentially trendy shapes and textures achieve a timeless, nature-influenced quality.

Thankfully, our clients have brave and trusting taste, which made our job a breeze. This allowed us to go bold with color and pattern, to create a warm but design-forward space. We used a palette of maroons, blues, and beiges to create a warm and inviting design. In addition, our palette choices needed to be strong enough to accommodate their high gloss black piano, which they regularly use. However, we balanced these bolder selections with textures of wood, velvet, zellige, and wool, to bring a natural and livable energy to the space. Finally, our clients are long-time lovers of and collectors of art. Their existing works, coupled with the opportunity to source art with them for the project, encouraged the pivotal artistic note of the design.
