Design often lives in the details, and this New Jersey home is a study in how small shifts can create meaningful change. Colette Interiors refined the architecture to create greater balance and functionality while introducing a warm, layered palette that brings ease to everyday living. Photographer Linda Pordon captures the home’s modern organic style, now woven throughout this timeless abode.

From Colette Interiors… This renovation began with a family with kids who loved their home but felt constrained by its layout. The house had great bones, but the flow wasn’t supporting the rhythm of daily life. Their vision was to create spaces that were more functional, better connected, and reflective of their style. Elevated yet approachable, beautiful but entirely livable.
One of the primary challenges was the architecture itself. Angled walls and awkward transitions interrupted sightlines and made furniture placement feel forced. We reworked the layout to create clearer geometry and stronger focal points, bringing balance and intention to the main living areas. Custom built-ins now frame the fireplace with symmetry, while the kitchen was redesigned for both efficiency and gathering.

Materiality guided the design from start to finish. Walnut millwork adds warmth and architectural depth throughout, most notably in the hall bathroom, where it wraps the space in a rich, tailored envelope. Aged brass hardware and honed marble surfaces introduce quiet refinement, while layered textiles soften the more structured elements. The moody olive dining room brings contrast and intimacy to the lighter surrounding spaces.

In the primary bathroom, the tone shifts to calm and restorative. Painted greige cabinetry introduces a softer, more tonal warmth, pairing beautifully with honed stone and understated brass fixtures. The restrained palette keeps the space feeling light yet grounded, while clean lines and balanced symmetry reinforce the architectural clarity established throughout the home. It’s a serene retreat, elevated, functional, and intentionally quiet in contrast to the more dynamic shared spaces.

The finished home feels grounded and enduring, a modern heirloom. It supports the movement of everyday life while maintaining architectural integrity and quiet luxury, designed to evolve gracefully alongside the family.
