Heather Bernstein’s latest project is as personal as it gets—her own family home in Kentfield, California. When she and her husband blended their families, they wanted a home that felt like a warm embrace, where their four kids could grow, gather, and feel at ease. Captured through the lens of Christopher Stark, the design embraces a quiet, neutral palette, layered textures, and timeless details, creating a space that exudes the warmth and comfort of a well-loved family home.

From HKB Interior Design… Marin-based interior designer Heather Bernstein, mother of two boys, and her husband, father of two girls, lived out their Brady Bunch story when they purchased a home in Kentfield to blend their families and start their lives together. They bought a 100-year-old house that needed a lot of work and had to be taken down to the studs, but they were ready to put down roots and make this house feel like a home.

From the warm oak cabinets to the neutral color of the walls, beautiful upholstered furniture with textured textiles, Bernstein brought each space to life. Each room seamlessly blends warmth with timeless style for a truly welcoming space. The home caters to her family’s needs and has proven to feel like the ultimate getaway, while still offering the practicality and comfort of everyday living. After all the hard work that went into this project, the approximately 5,000 square foot home encompasses six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms, along with an expanded deck area and new pool house below it, outfitted with a full kitchen and bathroom — perfect for the kids’ slumber parties.
