This serene abode in Ross, California, designed by Lauren Nelson Design and photographed by Stephanie Russo, effortlessly balances Spanish revival and timeless elegance. The striking stone selections in the kitchen and the tranquil primary bathroom—featuring soft plaster finishes and checkered stone flooring—reflects a dedication to craft and authenticity. Designed for a young family, the home seamlessly blends elevated design with a warm, approachable aesthetic, making it as functional as it is beautiful.

From the designer… As a designer, there’s nothing more rewarding than crafting a home that is as beautiful as it is personal. This home was a particularly special project for our studio at Lauren Nelson Design, not only because of its stunning architectural style but also because of the meaningful collaboration it required. From the start, we worked closely with our clients to build on the thoughtful schematic plans created by Sutro Architects, and transform this new-build into a timeless, functional, and welcoming space for a young family.

Our process began, as it always does, by tuning in to the home’s architectural language and to the clients’ vision. With such a clear stylistic foundation in the Spanish Revival tradition, we knew the interiors needed to reflect and enhance that character. The clients’ wish list included layered, elevated details that would make the home feel “designed” but never overdone. We achieved this by incorporating warm, tactile materials like natural stone, stained wood, plaster, handmade tile, and wrought iron. Architectural elements like arched doorways, wood-beamed ceilings, and thoughtful room transitions added depth and cohesion.

This home was truly a labor of love—one built on trust, collaboration, and a shared appreciation for timeless design. The husband, a talented general contractor and owner of Ghirardelli Construction, built the home with incredible care and attention to detail. It was a joy to design for someone who appreciated the craftsmanship behind more intricate and thoughtful designs. His wife brought a clear vision to the process, and together, we created spaces that felt both special and practical. It’s no wonder the clients adore their home, perhaps even more than most, given the deep personal investment they poured into its creation. For us, it was a privilege to be part of their journey and to see how beautifully their vision came to life.
