Taking cues from her clients’ attire (how clever!) and leaning into the California-casual aesthetic, Bianca Spinazzola Interiors created a charming family cottage her clients will call home for years to come. From the designer… I have designed many homes before, but this one was special. It was the first home completed under my very own business name. During COVID, I decided to quit my 9-5 and finally take that leap to become my own boss. When I landed this Newport Beach job, I knew it was meant to be. The homeowners recently moved to Newport Beach, CA and they really wanted a home in which they could create great memories. Not only were they super sweet, but they trusted in the design process. A couple words like; charming, timeless and eclectic were used a lot during the schematic design phase. One of my favorite spaces in this home is the kitchen. With its high vaulted ceiling and the ability to open all windows and doors seamlessly, it truly embodies that indoor/outdoor California lifestyle.
As far as the color palette and design style, right off the bat I could tell what kind of style they wanted. Hint: What people wear often tells you a lot about what colors and textures they gravitate towards. With that being said, we started in the living room. Since the living room was the first thing you see when you walk in, we wanted to have some fun with colors and patterns, it’s a neat little nod to what you are going to see throughout the rest of the home, a fun California cottage look. To add some character to the California cottage look, we selected some gorgeous vintage Persian rugs to ground some of the spaces. In an open concept, that’s very important. Fun fact: Two weeks before the photoshoot, we played around with some different options for the space right off the kitchen. Ultimately, we decided on a charming little breakfast nook with two swivel chairs and a table.
