Brought to life by Blackband Design, this Palos Verdes home reflects a contemporary vision infused with warmth and texture. What started as a pursuit of clean minimalism evolved into a layered, organic aesthetic, balancing sleek finishes with earthy tones and reeded millwork. From Blackband Design… “Clean and contemporary” was our clients’ guiding design direction from the beginning of this project over five years ago! They had big, beautiful plans drawn up by Brandon Architects for an expansive new build on the coast of Palos Verdes, California and invited us on board to customize and complete their interiors.

The scale of this home was a driving force behind design decisions — a balance between filling the volume while maintaining the minimalistic style this family appreciates. As we introduced new concepts and materials throughout the design process, our clients’ style evolved to include layers of Earth tones and organic textures. These accents (including reeded millwork in the kitchen and primary bathroom, and plaster walls in the wine room and powder bath) brought laidback dimension to the uniform stain-grade cabinetry and surrounding smooth finishes.

The bright and airy double-island kitchen is a focal point in the home. Inspired by the European style of cooking appliances, the layout allows for the host to engage with family and friends while preparing meals on the island cook top (with down draft venting in lieu of a bulky hood).

Oversized picture windows in the kitchen, great room, and throughout the home connect the coastal views and expansive pool yard to the down-to-earth yet elevated interiors.
