Modern lines and natural textures meet in this boho, family-friendly renovation. Colette Interiors updated this over 100-year-old house with the intention of bringing functionality to the family’s day-to-day and a cohesive style throughout. See how she pulled it all together in the tour below!
From the designer… The initial goal of the project at kick off was to make this a fully functioning space for this family of five. The previous kitchen was too small, not functional, and not eat-in. We expanded the footprint, adding an eat-in kitchen island large enough for the entire family, and transitioning the once more formal dining space into an everyday eating space. The plans included adding large windows in the kitchen design to flood the space with natural light, adding a small mudroom & powder bath where a former staircase had been, and refinishing the floors throughout the house to provide a more updated and cohesive look. An addition was added to the second floor as well which included a primary suite, new primary bath, and a renovated kids’ bathroom.
Our countertops were really our source for inspiration in this design. We balanced light and dark through the selection of quartzite and soapstone, which were juxtaposed in adjoining spaces in the kitchen and dining area. We then layered in warm wooden beams, mixed metals, and statement lighting. These selections extended into our three bathroom renovations as well.
The home is over 100 years old, built in 1915. Our goal was to pay homage to its history throughout the selection process, while creating an updated, functional space for our client and their family. Mudroom floors, authentic stone selections, classic furnishings, and vintage styled layers all contributed to drive this aesthetic vision.
