When tasked with reimagining her client’s builder-basic home Mindy Laven leaned in to their design inspiration: playful coastal. Brimming with loads of texture, pattern, and deep ocean blues, we think Mindy created a home that truly speaks to her clients’ aesthetic. So many design decisions were made to create the Coastal style for this client’s home in Anaheim, California. This young professional family with two small children longed for a space that felt livable yet, curated. This was a standard tract house with no real stand-out features. Our goal was to give it a custom feel that truly represented the family. Our design inspirations was playful yet sophisticated, with a coastal vibe.
In the living room, reclaimed wood ceiling beams and hand-painted terra cotta tile on the fireplace give the space a custom look. In the kitchen, we painted the builder-grade island a gorgeous ocean blue, added brass hardware to the cabinetry and designed a new range hood. A new industrial faucet complements a stylish black stainless steel refrigerator, chosen to go with the black pendant lights.
For our team putting together a cohesive decor scheme in the living room began with the rug! Our clients fell in love with it and everything else flowed from that selection! We then carried a blue theme throughout the house, using various shades in fabrics, paint, and artwork.
The children’s lounge also got a touch of blue and some whimsical decorative touches to give it playful feeling! Each child has there own desk for homework that will grow with them as this family makes this their forever home!
