From a music-filled living room featuring a curved velvet sofa to a dining room enveloped in custom mural wallpaper, every detail of this Oregon home reflects the homeowners’ love for modern sophistication rooted in tradition. Reimagined by Sunday House and captured by photographer Kaitlin Green, the design blends Mediterranean-inspired warmth with the home’s historical charm by way of earthy tones, natural textures, and oversized furnishings bringing a fresh, lived-in feel to this timeless villa.

From the designer… Our clients came to us to refresh and furnish their recently purchased stunning historical home – she wanted to modernize the space while maintaining the spirit of the property. She loved the Mediterranean style so we really embraced that throughout. From the moment you set foot in the foyer, you are greeted with an architecture that evokes Mediterranean breezes. We brought in warm and earthy hues of deep blue, sun-soaked terracotta, and olive green. Throughout the house are stunning parquet floors and the stairs had iron detailing, so we lightened that with fresh florals, crisp whites and natural textures like stone and linen.

The entry, dining and living room are very large spaces, so we knew that we needed to pull in oversized furniture and rich textures to ensure these interiors felt full and lived in. One area where we really embraced the oversized factor was the art! We really went for it with some large paintings throughout the entry and living room.

In the living room, we were charged with making it feel elegant and classic without being stuffy, so we incorporated rich textures, earthy tones, and intricate patterns while introducing contemporary elements – like the curved velvet couch – for a fresh, updated look that feels both rooted in tradition and perfectly suited for modern living. The homeowners are an especially musical family, so we were tasked with designing a cello corner as well as accommodating a grand piano, both elements we ultimately loved highlighting.

The showstopper is the dining room. It is always a fun challenge when you have an ornate historical detail, like the fireplace, and want to make the space feel more modern. In this case, we fully enveloped the space in custom mural wallpaper. The mural depicts an old European landscape making the entire space visually interesting while matching the natural tones of the fireplace, so it seems almost a part of the scene. We then added pops of contrasting tones & textures in the sideboard and dining chairs, making it the perfect space for a dinner party.
