When Nicole Salceda of Eye For Pretty toured this California home she knew the soaring, yet distracting ceilings would influence her design choices. She chose to focus her attention on creating eye-catching moments that play upon her client’s desire to host large parties. The results are an exciting yet refined home that doubles as an entertainer’s paradise. Take a peek at beautiful photos by Nicole Dianne to see just how she pulled it off!

From the designer… Because there were very interesting slopes in the ceiling the oven hood became a focal point of the kitchen. The massive plaster hood was added to really draw your eye up so you wouldn’t notice the different angles of the ceilings. The island was designed purposely to be oversized to maximize entertaining. The faucets and fixtures are all unlacquered brass which develops a natural patina as they age and add a lot of warmth to the space. The stunning matte black and brass range is a showstopper from Sub Zero appliances.

The bar area is a great space for the family to make drinks for their friends while in their kitchen! The bar was made from rift oak that was stained a lighter color than the island to play off of the floor.

We wanted the living room to be cozy and welcoming so we added a large sectional from Rowe Furniture, and Community Manufacturing club chairs with textured woven material that adds interest and warmth. We also added a dark coffee table – we really liked to mix the light and dark materials together so the design doesn’t fall flat.

The dining room showcases gorgeous ceiling beams and tongue and groove paneling. The oak dining table contrasts beautifully with black Ripley chairs and french doors open out to their incredible backyard making it a refined and welcoming space to entertain.

The sitting room features a gorgeous cast stone fireplace surround with two sconces from Visual Comfort. We added deep and comfy chairs (the husband is over 6’5’) so we wanted him to be able to fit and feel comfortable in the space. It had to not only look beautiful, but also function well!

The mudroom is one of our favorite spaces! The cabinets are stained an almost black shade to add depth to the space and compliment the brick herringbone on the floor. We added a lot of accessories with items from our shop (Eye For Pretty At Home) to create a pretty and functional space.

All of the bathrooms in this home are very unique! The powder room is a statement and one of our favorites; we went moody and dark on the walls. The vanity is made of a thick quartzite material and we fabricated the sink out of the same material. The dark walls and natural material of the sink contrast really well.

Two sisters share the beautiful hall bathroom so we added a tower in the middle to store all of their products. I love the marble band on the tower!

In the primary bath we used calcutta on the floor and the cabinets are rift oak with a little bit of a darker stain than the kitchen and the bar area. We also created a huge walk-in steam shower with oversized Calcutta tiles to give them a spa-like experience.
