Blending timeless charm with thoughtful modern comfort, Dana Kumm of Salt Design Company designed this home as an inviting retreat tailored to contemporary family living. Originally constructed in 1912 during the Jersey Shore’s rise as a coveted vacation destination, the home embraces airy interiors, layered textures, and thoughtful millwork details that nod to its history. Linda Pordon captured the transformation of this welcoming abode in the tour below.

From Salt Design CompanyOur Washington Avenue Project home combines timeless charm with thoughtful modern comfort, creating a space that feels both elevated and inviting. Originally constructed in 1912, the home dates back to a period when the Jersey Shore was emerging as a sought-after vacation destination, inspiring interiors that felt airy and relaxed, with breezy details and softer color palettes.

Our clients partnered with Salt Design for our Full Service Design offering, seeking a complete transformation that honored the home’s original character while creating spaces tailored to modern family living. From decorative lighting, furnishings, and layout planning to custom millwork details, procurement, installation, and final styling, our team managed every aspect of the design process to deliver a cohesive home.

The family room is anchored by a classic fireplace and tailored furnishings designed to support both everyday ease and effortless entertaining for this family of four. In the dining area, clean architectural lines meet handcrafted warmth through custom millwork, an oversized dining table, and understated details that create an inviting place to gather. Curated finishes and natural materials lend a sense of quiet luxury throughout.

A sunlit entryway is highlighted by warm wood tones, soft neutrals, and layered textures. A built-in window seat with a custom upholstered cushion grounds the space, while English-inspired wallpaper wraps the walls to create a welcoming first impression.

The home now feels calm, inviting, and deeply connected to its history. Comfortable yet polished, it offers a beautifully considered backdrop for daily living, where every room feels intentional, relaxed, and effortlessly stylish.
