From the designer… This project is a custom build in Stinson Beach, CA. It sits on the Pacific Ocean and is surrounded by incredible flora and fauna. We set out to honor the natural surroundings, building a home that is as sustainable as possible and fits in with the setting. Upon entry through the gate, the owners and guests are immediately welcomed into an outdoor oasis that flows through the home to the ocean. We wanted to create a seamless flow from the inside to the outside, with windows that allow for the beauty on all sides of the home to be visible. It’s designed to feel that the house is “held” by the nature all around it.

The craftsmanship in this home shines through in every single element, from the structure to the cabinetry, decks, flooring, wall detail, lighting and landscape. It is equally functional and artful in every single space, with elements of nature woven throughout the inside, including a lush living wall in the living room.

The homeowners wanted to build their dream home, one that felt aligned with their values and deep spiritual life. They are a couple who did not set out to build a huge home, but one that would be a beautiful space to invite friends, their sons, and grandchildren. The surroundings feel like a painting and serve as inspiration for their own art and desire to live an elevated life connected to nature. Each day, the sky and ocean change in dramatic ways, and no two days are the same in this setting. The way the home is designed, they are enveloped in natural beauty all around. It gives them peace and feels like a true retreat every day.
