When this modern makeover began it was centered around one strong and prevailing concept, togetherness. The designers at The Lynden Lane Co. infused their clients’ love of books, travel, and personal history to entice friends and family to gather and share day-to-day moments in comfortable luxury. Equipped with soft inviting finishes and multiple places to rendevous, both indoor and out, we think you’ll agree they’ve created a home that certainly encourages a family to come together.

From the designer… It all started with the Fryman Family Room. When we first started this project, it was clear that this room was the keystone to the house, so it became a jumping-off point for everything else.

The family room was located at the heart of the house. It served as the main anchor to all the other rooms in the space, since you have to pass through it to get to the kitchen, patio, owners’ suite, and many other rooms. Our inspiration for this room went beyond just a typical family room – we wanted it to be a gathering place, but also a beautiful transitional space for the rest of the home. We envisioned a space that was cozy and welcoming for anyone to hang out, with touches of elevated modern design that would give structure and finesse to the room. This is when the big bookcase concept really blossomed as an idea.

The owner is an avid reader and had a myriad of boxes filled to the brim with books. We knew from the start that we wanted a bookcase in the room, but we wanted to find the perfect balance of something that wasn’t too overbearing, but still made a bold statement. A big bookshelf oftentimes can overwhelm a room, so we chose to design this bookshelf with touches of minimalism and modern elements that was closer to the feels of an art installation. The angling of the shelves, the ambient lighting, and the ladder all came together to become this artistic and eye-catching piece in their family room. It was the perfect vehicle to give the room transitional elements to the rest of the home, while still maintaining structure and style when considering the room by itself.
