Steeped in history yet alive with modern spirit, this Lake Tahoe property has been thoughtfully transformed by Justine Macfee Interior Design. Blending contemporary playfulness with the enduring character of California mountain architecture, Justine reimagined the home as a vibrant retreat for multi-generational living. Captured through the lens of David Tsay, the Tahoma getaway reveals how thoughtful updates can honor legacy while embracing the future.

From Justine Macfee Interior Design … This transformative renovation of a historic Lake Tahoe property honors the architectural legacy of Richard Whitaker, a founding architect of Sea Ranch. Justine Macfee led the thoughtful update of the main and guest houses, preserving the original architecture while reimagining the spaces for a growing multigenerational family. The project’s vision combines a contemporary aesthetic with the essence of classic Tahoe design, inspiring future generations to enjoy their West Shore retreat.
The interiors were carefully gutted and revitalized. Original whitewashed pine paneling was updated to a warm white lacquered finish, creating a brighter, airy nautical ambiance. This is complemented by rich oak and redwood accents, which add warmth, depth, and durability. Natural quartzite and granite stone surfaces and handmade tiles infuse the space with organic craftsmanship, blending rustic elements with clean architectural lines. Thoughtful pops of color, texture, and pattern celebrate the family’s Filipino heritage while tying back to the home’s mountain lakefront setting.

In the bedrooms, supergraphics pay homage to the late Barbara Stauffacher Solomon, adding a playful, artistic touch. Every detail was thought through and intentional. This sensitive renovation ensures the property remains a cherished family haven while respecting the original architectural vision, bridging the past and future seamlessly.
