This 1950s home in Port Washington, NY, underwent a complete gut renovation by Danielle Rose Design Co., transforming it into a functional and inviting space for a busy family of five. Danielle infused cozy touches throughout, including a sunroom enveloped in deep forest green, adding warmth and character. Raquel Langworthy beautifully captured the evolution of this home into a unique blend of eclectic and traditional design in the tour below.

From the designer… This project began as a full gut remodel of a 1950s split-level home, originally 2,300 sq ft. the renovation added another 2,000 sq ft, including a third-story primary suite, which features a spacious bedroom with vaulted ceilings, office, closet, and bathroom. A mudroom extension also contributed significantly to the added square footage. The goal was to completely reimagine the interior of this 1950s split-level home for a family of five, making it warm, welcoming, and inviting. We focused on creating a light-filled, open-concept first floor with a kitchen designed as the heart of the home. Standout features include a two-story entry, archway, and limestone fireplace. Throughout the entire home, we prioritized durability, ensuring that the design could withstand the demands of daily life with three young children.

The most surprising part of this project was how beautifully the sunroom came together. This was incredibly fun to design. The pitched ceiling and intricate details made this space truly special, and the surrounding greenery enhances the room’s charm. We drenched the walls in a deep green, Enchanted Forest by Benjamin Moore, and the ceilings were clad with white oak wood planks and beams. The deep green wall color combined with warm wood touches creates a cozy and inviting space. This room faces the front entry and helps to create drama when you first walk into the home and see the bold color through the focal archway. We scoured Facebook marketplace for the wicker set, which we purchased for $300. We knew we could breathe new life into this set with a fabric upgrade so we reupholstered the cushions and pillows in our favorite Claremont Tree Of Life fabric. We sourced a deep plum coffee table to add depth to the room and paired it vintage rug.
