Every rebrand deserves a fresh reintroduction and we’re thrilled to be raising a glass to one of our incredible members today—the team at Kennedy Cole Interior Design. We’re sitting down with owners, Lindsay and Alex, to chat all things design, business, and their greatest muses. Plus, a peek at their fresh new branding by IDCO Studio! It’s makeover magic that showcases the team’s work with intention.
How would you describe your design style? Is there a specific style/aesthetic you aim to achieve?
At Kennedy Cole Interior Design, we believe that design should be an intimate experience that uncovers the rhythms and rituals of our clients’ daily lives – creating a unique, authentic environment that blends luxury and livability.
Threads of our clients’ personality and our own curated inspiration woven throughout each project, result in a home that has a distinctive feel and tailored functionality within the framework of our firm’s signature style. Our goal for every home is to design something that is so deeply personal it cannot be recreated, so rather than aiming towards a specific style, we prioritize authenticity, natural elements, and highly functional design.
What drives your design decisions? What are some of your biggest inspirations?
Our design decisions are based on the unique way that each client lives within their home and is ultimately the foundation of our design plan for each individual project. We strive to create a space that makes sense for the way individuals live their lives, and this level of customization requires a great deal of intentionality.
The one thing that each of our most inspiring projects share is transparency. We ask our clients to give us a front row seat to their lives – how they begin each day, what they do to unwind in the evenings, and where they entertain and host meals for family and friends. We help them focus on what home really means, then translate that into a curation of art, furnishings, textiles, and finishes which results in a truly transparent, authentically beautiful home.
With such a unique approach to design, do you find that clients are ever surprised by your processes when you walk in without a multitude of concrete ideas?
We are firm believers that great design is fully tailored to each individual. Without first getting to know our clients, we couldn’t present the beautifully customized homes that we are so proud to be a part of. Focusing on the functionality of people’s personal lives is how our designs effortlessly fall into place. Believing in design without boundaries allows us to surpass genre and centers instead around the way clients move through the most sacred of their spaces. Even if our processes come off as a surprise at first, we often find that as we begin getting to know our clients, it quickly translates into the curation of their space.
Tell us a bit about your journey to become designers; What inspired you to explore a career in interior design?
Lindsay – “I left the corporate world and moved into events and set design. From there, it was only a matter of time before I found my passion for the art of curating spaces. I’m a detail-oriented maximalist at heart and am responsible for the subtly striking details that add the “wow-factor” to our firm’s designs.”
Alex – “Growing up in New York, my love for design began at a young age and is something I’ve carried with me ever since. With function at the forefront of my mind, I strive for a balance of East Coast character and West Coast ease. I manage the construction and design implementation for KCID and love nothing more than turning houses into homes.
Were there any challenges you faced during your first year of being business owners that proved to be valuable lessons?
Where to start?! We are constantly learning, reflecting and adapting. Maybe we’ll write a book someday! Above all, we have realized the importance of prioritizing the pillars that our company was founded on and will continue to be our standard: authenticity and transparency. After a few years in business and curating a process that truly embodies our focus on function and form, we decided to undergo a complete rebrand this year. We are so pleased to reintroduce ourselves as Kennedy Cole Interior Design – a full-service interior design firm that is dedicated to creating authentically beautiful homes, and we are so thrilled for this new era of design innovation and authenticity that we are committed to!
