Chelsea Interior Design’s vision for this San Clemente kitchen beautifully blends organic modern style with a gentle nod to coastal traditional charm. Thoughtfully reinterpreting existing elements using natural materials and artisanal details, Chelsea created a warm, inviting kitchen perfectly suited for relaxed family living. Charlotte Lea Photography captured the incredible transformation below.

From Chelsea Interior Design… This kitchen transformation was all about taking a cold, uninspired space and infusing it with warmth, personality, and a sense of grounded comfort. The clients had just purchased the home and wanted it to feel more like them—welcoming, relaxed, and ready for everyday life with their growing family. The goal was to create a space that didn’t feel too precious—something stylish yet family-friendly, grounded yet elevated.
While the cabinetry was all existing, we saw an opportunity to work within that framework and completely shift the tone of the space through thoughtful updates and natural materials. We started by painting all of the cabinetry to create a softer, more inviting base, then added warmth and texture with a Zellige tile backsplash and white oak shelving. The island, which was already in place, was extended to allow for more seating and prep space, and we added woven counter stools to bring in some natural texture.

Lighting played a major role in softening the space and creating a layered, organic vibe. We added a mix of brass and ceramic fixtures to balance a slightly modern edge with warmth and age.
My favorite feature is the custom plaster hood with two tiny niches that now hide essentials like salt, pepper, and olive oil—it’s one of those small but joyful details that makes the kitchen feel personal and functional.

This is now a kitchen that invites you in, makes you want to stay awhile, and reflects exactly who the clients are: relaxed, connected, and ready to make memories.
