Studio Burgoon brought soul and story to this Sun Valley townhome through a furnishings-only scope that embraced the spirit of its mountain surroundings. Photographed by Lindsay Brown, the project transforms new construction into a richly layered retreat, where vintage treasures, custom-crafted pieces, and collected art lend warmth, patina, and personality to every corner.

From Studio Burgoon We recently completed a furnishing-only scope for a newly constructed townhome in Sun Valley, Idaho. With breathtaking views of the Smoky Mountains and proximity to Dollar Mountain, the home offered a stunning natural backdrop — but the central challenge lay in breathing life and warmth into the blank canvas of new construction. As a model unit for a new development, the interiors also needed to appeal to a broad range of potential buyers while still feeling elevated, collected, and full of soul — the kind of layered character more commonly found in older, storied residences.

Drawing inspiration from the legacy and landscape of Sun Valley, we leaned into a refined mountain-modern aesthetic grounded in craftsmanship and materiality. A treasure trove of original vintage art sourced from the Round Top Antiques Show set the tone — infusing the home with texture, depth, and a sense of history from the start. Custom furniture pieces designed in collaboration with Olive & Wool added a bespoke sensibility: leather-wrapped fluted nightstands, reclaimed wood dressers, and an alpaca-striped bench secured with leather straps all speak to a commitment to heirloom-quality design.

Key vintage finds include a midcentury teak brutalist console in the entry by Felix De Boussy, Henning Kjaernulf dining chairs reupholstered in a classic Kravet wool plaid, and a rare patchwork De Sede DS-11 sofa in rich cognac — a true collector’s piece and the heart of the main living space. The double-height dining room is anchored by a sculptural, mouth-blown chandelier, while vintage wool rugs help ground and soften the architecture throughout.

One standout moment was the media room on the ground floor. With limited natural light, we embraced its darker qualities, color-drenching the space in a deep green plaster to create a moody, cocoon-like retreat. The artisanal finish adds intimacy and quiet luxury — perfect for cozy evenings and quiet respite.

This soulful home balances elevated design with an inviting sense of ease honoring the spirit of Sun Valley while appealing to today’s discerning homeowner.
