This stunning 1920s Spanish Revival home in San Francisco was thoughtfully transformed by Regan Baker Design to blend modern style with Spanish and Art Deco influences. Photographer Laure Joliet captured the intricate details of the project, which reflect the client’s fashion-forward, high-design sensibility. While the architecture leans minimalist, traditional elements and eclectic furnishings shines through, balancing the modern structure with warmth and character. The result is a sophisticated, lived-in space that feels both opulent and inviting.
From the designer… Our fashion forward client has an appreciation for high design and had her hand in all of the home’s unique details — she loves traditional interiors and furnishings, is very into decorative objects and details, and brought us on to help infuse character into this rudimentary remodel. Her husband has a more modern and minimal style, which is seen in the home’s architectural footprint. Fun to work with, open to fun ideas and concepts, and keen to keep the project lighthearted, they made a multi year remodeling process that much better. To begin the design process, she came with a very detailed Pinterest board with a lot of mood imagery which RBD sifted through to better articulate and confirm what could be done. Keeping the process fun and energetic, our clients kept a running list of funny quotes and catchphrases we found ourselves returning to throughout the process.
Our client enjoyed opulence, but wanted refinement in a way that didn’t make the home feel too stuffy but rather lived in and enjoyable, and nothing too precious. They were very open to marrying architectural details such as applied molding in the library and not doing baseboards on the stairs. A mix of those architectural details blend the modern and traditional elements together. Furniture adds that layer of found pieces that give a lived in feel and creates a nice juxtaposition that brings everything together. Natural materials were also important to give a lived in feel that felt as though they had been there forever. Wood doors and cabinetry creates the warmth she wanted to introduce into a house with clean and modern white walls to make it feel warm and inviting. The result is comforting, inviting, and artistic.
